District 8 | Trustee Miguel Solis |
Representing District 8, Miguel Solis became the youngest board member ever elected to the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees on November 5, 2013. Solis’ professional experiences include serving as a field organizer during President Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, a Dallas ISD teacher and central staff member, and the City Director of an education non-profit organization. He currently serves as the Director of Community Affairs for a software company based in Dallas.
Miguel’s direct experience with the students of Dallas ISD includes time as a middle school social studies teacher (T.C. Marsh), football/baseball coach, social studies department head, campus instructional leadership team member, mentor and advocate. In 2010, after his first year of teaching, Miguel was named the T.C. Marsh Middle School teacher of the year.
Miguel is a native Texan, raised by his mother, a school bookkeeper, and late father, a public school teacher and small business owner. He received his B.A. in history with a minor in political science from Lamar University and received his M. Ed. in education policy and management from Harvard University.
